In 1833 Samuel Johnston married Anne Young at Kilmurry Rectory , Shinrone , Kings Co (now Offaly). They both worked for Rev.William Brownlow.Savage. He (Rev.Savage)worked at Aghavea , Co.Fermanagh prior to this. Family lore always had it that we have Northern Ireland connections and i believe Samuel originated in Fermanagh. In conforming to a Victorian type where children were seen ..etc any firm factual evidence is lacking.

I understand my ancestor bears a common Fermanagh name but i offer this appeal just in case this rings any bell with a Johnston branch. This rather neatly arrives at a possible Johnston/Bell connection which is inconclusive so far.

Samuel and Anne had 4 children . My great g.mother Mary 1835-1913 ... Eliz.Anne 1838-1847 ... Archibald.John 1839-1866 ... and Bessie.Emily 1851- ?.

Any response will be gratefully devoured.

  • Aghavea Church of Ireland parish records only start in 1815 which is too late for either baptism. Also with a common name and no parents names it might be difficult to be certain you had the right family anyway. DNA testing might match you with a family that knows more about the family origins.
