I am trying to find a baptism record or any sort of record to find the specific location of where this branch of my family might have lived. My 3rd great grandmother Sarah Clancy was born about 1826 somewhere in County Leitrim. In 1846, she married Peter McPharlin in Maidstone, Essex, Ontario, Canada. On her marriage record, it lists her parents as James Clancy and Helen Higans. It is recorded in French, so I think Helen Higans may actually be Ellen Higgins or something like that. Some later records list her birth year as 1819, but I think it was closer to 1826. I've occasionally seen her surname written as Glancy. I'm not sure which is the more "correct" spelling. I've looked through some microflilms at a nearby LDS family history library for parishes in County Leitrim that haven't been digitized and put online, and I didn't notice any children born to a James Clancy and Ellen Higgins from 1819 to 1826, although I didn't have that long to look and some were very hard to read. Leitrim seems like one of the smaller counties, although I'm not very familiar with it.
I looked through the tithe applotment books and noticed there were over 20 James Clancys listed in County Leitrim alone. I'm not sure how to narrow that number down or what to do next. At this point it seems like a lost cause.
Thank you.

Matt:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching out!
I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find any baptismal records for Clancy/Glancy children with parents James Glancy/Clancy and Ellen Higgins. Likely they were baptized in an RC parish which has records starting later than what you need. There are fourteen Leitrim RC parishes with records starting 1840 or later.
We do not know if James Glancy/Clancy was still alive in 1857 and shown in the Griffiths Valuation head of household listings. There were 25 James Glancy/Clancy in the Griffiths mostly Clancy. The main parishes were Rossinver and Cloonclare in the the north of the county but there were records in Killasnet, Drumlease, Cloone and Killanummery parishes.
Please consider adding Sarah's story to our XO Chronicles site and maybe someone will see a connection https://irelandxo.com/ireland-xo/history-and-genealogy/ancestor-database

Hello Matt and Roger, as Roger is aware I am interested in Leitrim as my maternal side is from there. The name is a variant of Clancy, who are former Chieftains in north Leitrim until about the late 1500s, my ancestors are from South Leitrim around the town of Mohill. I have had a local genealogist do some work for me on the Murray family (my great grandmother is a Murray) and it appears here mother was most likely a Glancy, this is borne out by my DNA matches which turns up both names as Glancy and Clancy, my Margaret would have been born probably the early 1830s but the only record I can find is a birth of my Murray person in Bornacoola which does not realy fit, location wise as they lived in a place near Mohill called Gortlettragh. There is a marriage of a Michael Murray to a Glancy lady in about 1846 I think (have record somewhere).
On FTDNA there is a Clancy project on surnames, one of many but as luck would have it I ran across the genetleman doiing it at a lecture he was giving, he tells me there are 3 distinct branches of the Clancy and variants in Ireland, Leitrim; Clare and I think Mayo. I intend joining at some point.
I volunteer on this site in Louth on the east coast and my site email is stpeters@irelandxo.com if you want to get in touch.
There is a private Leitirm History and Genealogy Facebook page but as Roger says the records are the records that exist currently and there is no magic wand.
Good Luck,
Pat
