I am fairly new to this so please forgive any seemingly mundane impositions! I am inquiring as to any information that may lead to discovering the area of Ireland that may be inhabited by any Webbs of Scotch-Irish descent. My closest ancestor to Ireland is an Aely or Aily (Eli) Webb, from Buncombe County, North Carolina, and was born in 1805. He is mentioned in an Irish Mcready article but with minimal information. Any and all information is sincerely appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Garry,
Thank you for your message.
Unfortunately, it will be very difficult to find information on Aely without a more specific place of origin. Most Irish record sources- church records, land records, census records- are based on specific locations. Until you know a specific location within Ireland, preferably a parish or placename, it may be difficult to do anything more with these records.
Do you have any documentation that mentions any place name whatsoever?
Have you tried looking into Aely?s emigration? Perhaps if you can find his immigration record there may be some useful information in it. A good place to start ids the US National Archives here:
http://www.archives.gov/research/immigration/
You can see from the Irish TImes website that the surname Webb is spread throughout Ireland so you really need to try to narrow it down:

Some websites that you may find helpful/useful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/
The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm
Family Search: www.familysearch.org
Sorry I couldn?t be of more help. If you do find any new information remember to post it. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
Kind regards,

Have you considered DNA analysis? The WebbDNAproject has quite a few Irish lines now and you may be able to link up to one them if your surname is Webb, or else find a male relative with the Webb surname who can help. You might be related to the Northern Irish Webb family who settled there circa 1550 originally from Gloucestershire in England.
