I am trying to locate the parish/townland for my 2nd great grandmother, Mary Ann McKee. Three different obituaries say that she was from County Clare, Ireland but list no parish or townland. Here is what I know:
Mary Ann McKee (or Mc Kee), born 15 June 1833, presumably County Clare, Ireland
Father: Patrick McKee, born about 1803, Ireland
Mother: Anna Carter, born about 1803, New York City (questioning accuracy of this)
No known siblings.
Mary Ann McKee emigrated to New York City, USA in 1850, during the potato famine. I am told that she traveled alone and her parents remained in Ireland. She married John Frederic Geiger 10 September 1853 in New York City. John emigrated to New York City from Eddersheim, Hessen-Nassau, Prussia in 1850. Their first 2 children were born in New York City. They moved to Burlington, Iowa, USA about 1857, where they had additional children. Mary Ann died 7 January 1907 in Provo, Utah, USA.
Griffiths Valuation lists 3 Patrick McKees in County Clare. One of them is shown in the same household as Michael Carter (perhaps a relative of Mary Ann's mother, Anna Carter?). I have searched parish registers for all 3 locations and have not found any baptism information for Mary Ann McKee. I presume she was Catholic, but do not know for sure.
I have not been able to find any marriage or naturalization records that might list place of birth. Death certificate just lists Ireland as place of birth.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi dicksonsk:
I noted that the McKee and Carter that you refer to in Griffith's Valuation is located in Kilnoe civil parish. Those parish registers begin in 1833. I noted that there are several McKee baptisms in this register and I would definitely take a look at them. In addition, the comment that you made about the Carter and McKee is very good and is definitely worth pursuing.
You will also note that in Kilnoe parish the surname is spelled as McKee/MacKey. There also appears to be McKee/MacKey surnames in neighbouring parishes. It might also be worth looking at Ogonnelloe parish registers.
These registers are all available to view (as transcriptions) on the Clare Library website at this link: http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/places/kilnoe.htm
Feakle parish was another place where the McKee name was noted, but the registers only begin in 1860. You will see in the Kilnoe parish register that there are 2 children born to Denis McKee and Mary Carter in 1837 and 1839.
Take a look at the registers above, and let me know if you have any other questions.
All the best,
Jane
