I am searching for information about one of my 2nd great grandparents, Morgan and Margaret (Arnold) Fitzpatrick. One of their sons (James Fitzpatrick) had a daughter (Margaret Edith), who married my paternal grandfather, Chester Arthur Goodwin. Morgan Fitzpatrick and Margaret Arnold were both from County Wexford. Here is what I know of them (i.e., not much). The Catholic Parish Register, 1655-1915, has a Morgan Fitzpatrick being baptized in Enniscorthy on 19 December 1809; His father was Phillip Fitzpatrick and his mother was Mary Fling (?—not very legible). He also appears in the Ireland Tithe Appointment Book as living in Craigmore townland, Kilrush Parish, County Wexford, in 1924. And in the 1841 census of Canada he is living on Prince Edward Island, occupation tailor. I know virtually nothing about Margaret Arnold, except for her appearance in the Canada census of 1861 as a widow. There are two other later references to them as the parents of children getting married, both marriages occurring in Boston, Massachusetts. One of their sons, Patrick, was born in Ireland in 1826 (possibly 1825), but their other children (5 of them) were born in Canada, starting in 1827. So it appears that they came to Canada sometime around 1826 or 1827, and spent the rest of their lives there.

  • Hi Jim
I just did a quick search on findmypast free baptismal records and found the birth record for the Morgan Fitzpatrick you mentioned above. Findmypast has the mothers name transcripted as Mary Tierney.
I'll do a better search tomorrow and see more of what I can find.

  • Thanks for your quick reply Alicia. Mary "Tierney" certainly makes more sense than Ancestry's Mary "Fling."
