I am searching for records on John Bradley Freel, born 10 May,1743, supposedly in County Donegal. He probably was Protestant. He left for Johnstown, Tryon (later Fulton) County, New York, in 1767. He married Deborah Emily Morgan (b. @ 1740 in Kilkenny) in 1768, in Johnstown, New York. The family eventually settled in Niagara, Ontario, Canada. John and Deborah are both buried in Butler's Burying Ground, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada. Their gravestones may be seen on findagrave.com.

Are there any records in existence that might go back to 1743? My nephew is planning a trip to Ireland next year, but he is not positive where this ancestor came from in Ireland.

Although John B. Freel first settled in New York, he lost his land there after the Revolutionary War, as he was a Royalist and fought for the British.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The subscription site Roots Ireland only has two Church of Ireland parishes that have records prior to 1750 and there are no RC parishes with records back that far. I did a quick check on Roots Ireland and the earliest John Friel baptismal record was in 1829.
