Attempting to discover grandfather's birth record, Thomas Ryan b Mar.1865. He married Anne Ferns ,my grandmother, daughter of Michael "Mick" Ferns and Anne Coughlin in Parsonstown, Birr, Co. Offaly in ,I believe 1884 or 1885. They immigrated to the United States, before Feb. 1887, when my father was born in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Hi there,
If you go to www.rootsireland.ie you can find the marriage record for thomas ryan and anne ferns in 1885 in Birr Co. Offaly. You will need to view this to see if it gives the names of the grooms parents.
The name ryan is generally a tipperary name so you will find many people with the same name. The only way of narrowing it down is to try and get the parents names.
If his birth was in 1865 then it should be on the governmental database, but you will still need to know his parents names.
If you can't find these names then look at the names he called his children. Children were always called after the grandparents. This might help to sort through some records.

Look also at www.familysearch.org
