Searching for info on Margaret Walsh family. She was born October 14, 1865 in County Kildare but we do not know the parish. She was married to a Mr. Durkin who was killed in the war. Later moved to U.K. married and emigrated to U.S. in 1893.

We do not know her mother or father’s name. Is it possible to find info without this vital info?

Any information will be helpful.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

This may be the civil birth record for Margaret  https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…;  Her parents wee Thomas Walsh and Margaret Reddy Walsh. Not sure of the townland but they lived in either Lackagh or Monasteravin civil parishes in western Kildare on the border of Offaly. Any siblings? I will look further.

Another Ireland Reaching Out volunteer, Jim Vaughan,  found a second Margaret Walsh born on October 14, 1865 in Co. Kildare also with a father Thomas. (The odds have to be astronomical.) He also located the 1885 marriage record for Margaret to James Durkin. I think the 1865 birth record for the second Margaret is actually for your ancestor.

Let me know what questions you have.

    Questions:

I noticed that the birth record for the second Margaret does not have an “e” on the end of Walsh but her marriage record to Mr. Durkin does have an “e” on the end of her name as well as her father’s name. Was it common to add an “e” at some point later in life..or could it possibly not be the correct birth record? Or maybe even be due to whoever was documenting the event?

Also, I was not able to see the record for the first Margaret. It was saying “not found” Would it be possible to post it again? I am just wondering if Walsh had an “e” on it on that one.

Also, what would be the best way to search for siblings/family? I have tried searching census records but not having much luck.

Lets try again  https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_retur…;   The record showed Walsh. Spelling of names in the 19th century was not an exact sciene meaning you can see a number of spellings for the same name. I checked on Roots Ireland in Co. Kildare for Walsh baptismal records where the father was Thomas and the mother had a surname of Reddy. Strange! I then searched for Walsh baptismal records where the father was Thomas and the mother's surname was Kane and only received one record which is below-- the baptismal record for the second Margaret- no siblings showed up. I also searched for marriage records for either couple and none showed up.

    Oh, okay. Thank you!

Are there any other ways/databases to search for siblings or do you think that there just weren’t any?

Also, would it be possible to find death records on her parents? I haven’t been able to locate anything on them.

Here is the parish register for Kilcullen RC parish up to 1881. https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0483  You could scan the baptismal records to see if there are other records for the family that were missed by Roots Ireland.

I looked at the 1901 and 1911 censuses for Sunnyhill townland which was shown in the 1865 baptismal record. I located two Walsh families in 1901. The first showed Margaret as a widow with a son Patrick. There was also a record for a John Walsh and family. John may also have been a son to Margaret and Thomas. NOTE his oldest son was named Thomas. In 1911, Margaret was not shown which means she likely died between 1901 and 1911. I did find a record for Patrick who was now married and a record for the John Walsh family. Also located an 1896 death record for Thomas Walsh and a 1902 death record for Margaret Walsh. See below.
