My great great granny was Jane Lamb who was born about 1820. She married Hugh Byrne and they had three children in the
Stonetown lower -Rootate area, three girls. I was told he died in a marl pit in Ireland. She came to the USA, as did her children.

Hello B. I can find no marriage for the couple on Roots but there are 3 children born in the 1840s, Catherine (Stonetown) Bap: 22nd September 1843; Sponsors Pat Clark and May Byrne;
Mary Byrne Rootate: Bap: 14th May 1846 Mother recorded as Jenny Lamb, Sponsors are Peter Carroll and Alice Clarke and
Bridget Byrne, Rootate, Bap. 8th August 1848 Sponsors Pat Markey and Anne Byrne.
All in the parish of Louth, see https://registers.nli.ie/ Search baptisms by year and month and just read until you find them.
I found the Byrnes in Rootate in the Tithes including a Hugh in 1834, possibly your Hughs father, births for Louth parish do not appear early to ascertain, start in 1833.

The marriage woud take place normally in the brides parish and I see a Lamb in Tithes in Stabannon, also elsewhere but marriages for Stabbanon are later recorded.
I searched for Rootate on this site and see a landlord Taffee had land in both places, http://www.jbhall.freeservers.com/
I found no record of James being born between 1830 and 1860. These births took place during the famine too, not sure if that had an effect there.
Netflix made a film in the area a few years ago about some brutal murders circa 1815, it was filmed locally so you might like to view it, Wild Goose Lodge Murders is the title, there is a short piece about it on the site above about Louth.
Also Griffiths Valuation containing some maps was done in the 1850s and you can see where the plot is, not easy but can be done see http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=place…;
There is also a site showing the townlands in various counties and you can click on the name for Rootate and the others and see exactly where they are. https://www.townlands.ie/louth/
There is also a Louth Genealogy Facebook page, apply to join and post, it is well moderated.
