Hello, 

I am searching my 3x great grandmother, Margaret Moriarity.  She was born between 1800-1809 near Ballylongford, Kerry.  I have found several Margarets born in Kerry and I am trying to figure out which one might be mine.  

Margaret married Thomas Neville.  He was born around 1802 in Kerry.  To my knowledge, they had the following sons:  Thomas born 1825, Michael born 1828, Timothy born 1831(my 2nd great grandfather), and Dennis born 1833.  All the sons were born in Lenamore, Ballylongford. 

If anyone has access to marriage records, I would appreciate any help finding Margaret and Thomas' marriage record to see if it mentions her father as a witness.  They were RC. I also am looking for any death records for Margaret.  To my knowledge,she lived in Kerry her entire life.

    The baptismal records for Ballylongford start in 1823 and marriage records start in June 1826. Baptismal records stop in May 1838 and resume in October 1869. Since Margaret and Thomas were baptized well before 1823, their baptismal records would not be available. I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find the marriage record. I did find three baptismal records as follows:

    Thomas December 27 1825 Michael August 5 1828 Denis April 25 1831  All dates are baptismal dates. I did not find the record for Timothy. Here is the parish register in case you want to look for his baptismal record  https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0654

    Margaret died in 1874. See fifth record at this link. The age provided by her son Denis was shown as 98 which is very likely overstated. Someone bon in 1776 would not likely have a child in 1831

  • Thank you very much Roger McDonnell for your time and the information.  Sorry it has taken me so long to get back on the message boards. Might there be any records of where Margaret was buried?  Ballylongford is a small village so they would most likely have but a few cemeteries?

    Apparently there are at least two cemeteries in the Ballylongford area https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery-browse/Ireland/County-Kerry/Ballylo…; I searched for Moriarty records and there were six records in Lislaughtin Abbey graveyard but the earliest death was 1930. In my experience, it would be difficult to find marker/headstones for people who died in the 1800s. People were poor and a headstone/marker was not affordable. Sometimes a son/daughter or grandchildren will later erect a headstone for their ancestors. Howver, if you can locate an e-mail address for the cemeteries/graveyards maybe they will have records.
