Hello - I am researching the extended O'Brien family in Silvermines - originally from Mucklin and then moved to Ballincur. I have already traced forward Michael O Brien ( B1824 Mucklin) & Winifred Flannery to an extensive family as they had 7 sons.
I am now working on Michael's apparent siblings Patrick & Daniel.
Patrick O'Brien of Mucklin, Dolla ( B 1822 - D1893) and his wife Mary ( ?) had two sons John B circa 1835 & Michael possibly born later. It looks like this John O' Brien was married twice - firstly to Catherine Henderson in 1875 & then to Mary Moloughney ( Nenagh) in 1878. Their second son Michael B 1849 and who died in 1873 ( age 24). His Mother Mary ( McLoughlin/Moloughny) also died that year (1873).
Daniel O'Brien married Margaret Maher ( ?) & they had the following six children - Patrick (1850), John (1852),catherinee (1854), Daniel (1856), Bridget (1860) & Jeremiah (1863)
Possible marriages coming forward from Daniel's family into the early 1900s are: Daniel & Mary O'Brien Boher and John and Margaret Mc Keogh Boher - both of these need verification.
I am also still searching for O'Briens ( of Mucklin) who were transported to Tasmania in the mid 1800. There may have been two or three brothers. Any definite information on this line would be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you I have and know who all these O'Brien's are - they are all from the exact O'Brien family I am researching but I am looking for an older generation of them - circa 1820 - 1840 who originated in Mucklin. Thanks again.

Hi Dianne B - Do you know the name of the Gleeson who sponsored your GG Patrick out to NZ? Was he originally from Mucklin ?? And you say he in turn sponsored two siblings out - Jeremiah and which sister Cath or Bgt? That would leave 3 siblings at home - John, Daniel & Cath or Bgt.
Thanks Betty G.

Dianne B. This appears to be our O'Brien family ok. The Daniel ( who married Mgt Maher - have no Mge date as yet) had 2 brothers - Michael B 1824 in Mucklin ( our branch of the O'Briens) and Patrick B circa 1823. Obviously your ancestor Patrick was named after his uncle Patrick. I have not fully researched Patrick B1823 but I have extensive research done on Michael O'Brien of 1824. The fact that the brother John also went to NZ and married a Rohan girl is interesting - it is a possibility that she is from this area also ( need to check it all out of course). It is more than likely very true that your Patrick was sponsored out by Gleesons - they went from Mucklin also and would have been neighbours here plus I have spoken with a local Gleeson and she says Patrick Gleeson had Hotels out there. I may get the book written by Val Munro to do more research. It would seem that 5 of the six children born to Daniel & Margt Maher emigrated and only a girl called Catherine was left - I will try to find her record. Plus I will look up the shipping records. If you get any more relevant information l would be grateful. Regards - Betty G.

Hi Betty Gleeson,
My name is Carrie Connolly and I feel I can help albeit 10 years later!
I am a direct descendant of a Jeremiah O'Brien who was born 1863/1864, to Margaret Meagher (Maher), and Daniel O'Brien.
My mother Linda and I have been on a quest to find our Irish ancestors. I feel very excited to find this post thanks to a man I contacted via ancestry.com who was not a DNA match, but had information on his tree that look as though it matched our Jeremiah. He led me here to this message board.
My mother's great grandfather Jeremiah O'Brien and his brother Daniel and sister Bridget sailed on the Rangitikei from London on the December 16, 1883 and arrived in Auckland on April 15, 1884. Jeremiah O'Brien settled in Thames, Coromandel, Waikato, New Zealand. He married his wife Bridget Collins in 1902 and had 4 children, Kathleen, Daniel and Jeremiah Bernard (who died as an infant) and my mother's grandmother Mary who brought her up as Linda's mother left New Zealand when my mother was small to settle in Liverpool, England. Jeremiah died, 13 Aug 1917, Thames, Coromandel, Waikato, New Zealand. He is buried with his wife Bridget at Buffalo Cemetery.
I would love to continue on our quest to find out more about the O'Brien's of Silvermines and find other descendants of Jeremiah's siblings.
I am also wanting to find Bridget Collins lineage. All we know are the names of her parents Jeremiah Collins and Johanna Whelan. I have tried to reach out to DNA matches via ancestry and others with similar names on their trees to no avail.
I will also make a new post as this one is so old. I would be so grateful to hear from you
Regards, Carrie
