Hi there,
I went to www.rootsireland.ie and searched for william scully b. about 1808 and mother name margaret
I found one record of
William Scully b.1810 mother margaret in Co. Waterford.
However when I scrolled down to parish/district dropdown menu and individually searched I found that he was born in Ardfinnan.
Ardfinnan is actually in Co. Tipperary but because it is on the borders of Co. Waterford you'll find that many of the areas records are recorded in both counties.
I did a little further research and found a marriage record for a William scully married to ann in the parish of St. Mary's Clonmel in 1835
All these records pertain to tipperary but are found on the waterford genealogy database, which was not unusual in bordering counties. Always check the surrounding county records.
Hope this helps a little,
Anne

Anne you are a gem.
I have never had anyone even here in Australia providing me with new information. I seem to be always helping others, and the feeling I got when I received your email, now makes me feel good that I have been able to help others. This is a great lead and I will have a play and see how I go with your information.
One day I will come to Ireland.

Mary,
Glad to be of service. I'll just give you the websites that I use here in Ireland. You are probably very familiar with them, but there maybe one or so that might open up a new avenue to you.
www.rootsireland.ie Pay per view site with much of the country's church records. Not too expensive
www.irishgenealogy.ie free site with remainder of most of church records (except co.clare)
www.askaboutireland.ie A really good site (free)
www.irishtimes.com/ancestor part commercial but full of information that's worth looking at
www.familysearch.org LDS free site
I briefly looked at the tasmanian records but couldn't find ann and her sons. Have you looked at the records for port of arrival in Australia. Many passengers landed there first and went onward to Tasmania.
anyway Mary, all the best in your search,
anne
