Hi, I am trying to find more info on my great great grandmother Catherine Gleason, possibly Gleeson born around 1836 to Dennis and Margaret. She came to Philadelphia around 1854 and her mother was living with her and my great great grandfather in the 1860 census. Margaret was born around 1791. I have no details on Dennis, but I assume he was born in the 1780s to 1790 based on Margaret's age. I have several Gleeson/Gleason DNA matches who were born in Co. Limerick, so I'm guessing that's where my people are from. Any help is appreciated.

    Hello again!

I searched on the subscription site Roots Ireland and did not find a Catherine Gleeson/Gleason baptismal record woith parents Denis and Margaret.

The 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Co.Limerick showed two Denis Gleeson records. See below. Your Denis may or may not have been in the Griffiths but at least you have two leads.

  • Thanks, Roger! Can you please clarify if only people who own property are on this list or if it's more like the census with every household accounted for.

    Thanks,

    Joanne

Less than a census. Only those who owned or leased land and I think very small holdings were excluded. If you were a labourer on a farm, you would not show up.
