My GGG Grandfather, Daniel Crean was born around 1800 and married Elizabeth Longfield in 1822 at St Finbarr Church, South Parish, Cork. He died in 1885. I have been trying to confirm his daughter, Elizabeth's birth date and place as well as her siblings, Harriet and Robert.

  • Thanks Miriam. We have found three of Daniel's children from his marriage to Elizabeth Longfield, Mary, Harriet and Robert, and most of his children to his second wife, Ellen Wall, including Eugene Crean, the politician. However there is a gap from Mary's birth in 1823 to Harriet's in 1830. Elizabeth is somewhere in between.

  • That's probably right. I visited St Finbarr's in the midb1990s and they had computerised their records. The bursar gave me a print out of all the Creans baptised there and I found most of her siblings and half siblings were listed. Sometimes though they were registered as Crane. Her elder sister, Mary, was baptised at Cobh. She also came to Australia as did her daughter. We haven't found what happened to Harriet and Robert. Daniel Crean and his wife, Elizabeth, are buried in St Joseph's cemetery in Cork.

    Thanks for your help.
