My gr. grandparents, Michael Manning and Margaret Purcell were married in St. Canice's R.C. church about  1858 and emigrated to New York City. She was the daughter of Peter Purcell and Mary Lee.  He was the son of Patrick Mangan aka Manning and Anastatia Ryan.  Believe Mary Lee was the daughter of John Lee and Nancy Cahill.   Any information about these families or their descendants, especially any still living in Ireland, would be most welcome.  The Purcells lived in Water Barrack section of Kilkenny.  Michael Manning on Jacob Street.

    Thank you for your message.

I hope that someone recognises the families you have mentioned and makes a connection with you.

Have you tried looking for any descendants that may have remained in Ireland in the 1901/1911 census records? If you haven?t already, you can do so here:

You could also contact the family history centre in Kilkenny for assistance. However, a fee may apply. Here are their contact details:

  • Hi

My great-great grandmother was Judith Purcell. she was born in Callan, Kilkenny in 1813. She had a twin brother John. The address on the Baptism Record is Jacob Street, Parish St Patrick's.

Her father was Patrick Purcel (Purcell)

Judith married John Doherty (Dogherty) they emigrated to Australia in 1856.

May or may not be related - the Jacob Street - might be the only connection.
