Hi,

I have recently started to research my family tree and discovered that my grandfather Robert Francis Hanley came from Ireland,  his parents were Martin Hanley and Margaret Ryan I think.  My great grandfather was Patrick Hanley.  I's like to find my family connections, who I believe are from Fermoy, County Cork, Ireland.  My father was Francis Leonard Hanley and he was born in Liverpool so at some point they moved there.

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I located some records of your family. The first record is the 1900 marriage record for Martin Hanley and Margaret Ryan. Martin's father is shown as Thomas. I located the 1901 census record for Martin and Maggie on Princes St. Your grandfather Robert was born in October 1909. I also located the 1911 census record which shows Martin, Margaret and their five children living with Patrick Condon and his wife Mary Ellen. The census record indicates that Martin was a son to Patrick Condon. Was he actually a step son?

Did Robert Hanley marry Margaret Kiely or did he marry in England?https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1929/09068/5280710.pdf

  • Hi Roger,

Only just found your message, apologies!

My grandfather Robert Hanley was married to Esther, I believe they got married in the UK.  I would love to find the history for my Irish family and if I have any living relatives in Ireland, can you help? I note that in Femoy there are a number of Hanley's

    Regards

    Debi

  • Hi Debi!

I will be glad to try to help but as I go over the message and my response, there are still some open issues. If I have the right Martin Hanley, his marriage record indicates that his father was Thomas but your initial message shows Patrick. The 1911 census (see link above)  if I have the correct Martin Hanley indicates this his father was Patrick Condon which does not make much sense. Can you clarify? Thanks!

    Roger
