I live in Perth Western Australia (WA) and am seeking information regarding my grandfather Martin Wallace who died and was interred in the Roman Catholic section of the Kalgoorlie (WA) cemetery on 18th October 1902.
My father's birth certificate records his father as being 40 years of age in 1902, indicatig he was born in Galway Ireland in 1862.
I have been in touch with the Irish records office who have indicated their records did not commence until 1864.
Since my grandfather is identified as being of the Roman Catholic faith i wonder if there are any church records of his birth in Galway Ireland.
Hoping someone can assist.
Barrye Wallace.

Hi Barrye,
Thank you very much for your message.
It is very possible that there is a church record of Martin?s birth, unfortunately, you really need to know the parish where it would have been registered in order to look at the records. As you can see from the link below there are a lot of Catholic parishes in Co. Galway:
http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/counties/rcmaps/galwayrc.htm
Roots Ireland do have some records available however they do not have a complete collection for Co Galway. I did a search on their website (www.rootsireland.ie) and found one result for Martin Wallace in 1861:

You have to pay to view the full record.
You could also try searching at www.familysearch.org for some records.
