Seeking Rose Eagan/Egan 1843-1927

The closest I found was the following:

A Rose Egan was baptized in Bekan RC parish in Mayo on 30 March 1846.  Parents Michael Egan, Mary Johnson. One sponsor listed: Bridget Egan.

Mollie is a nickname for Mary.  

Could the person giving the death cert info have confused Matthew and Michael? It's a thought.

I looked at the 1833 Tithe listings for Bekan civil parish and there is a record for a Mathias Egan who was leasing four acres of arable land in Lissaniska townland.  The 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Bekan parish shows a Patrick Egan in Lissaniska townland but no Mathias.

Possibly Mathias was the Matthew mentioned and he died before 1855. Still does not explain why the record that Patricia found shows Michael. By the way, there is also a January 22 1834 baptismal record with the same parents in Bekan. Roots Ireland erroneously transcribed the name as Tathius Egan but the register clearly shows the name was Mathias

In the 1796 flax growers list, I found the following:

Owens, Mathew parish of Kilbeagh, Mayo

Egan and Owen are the same name, so this Mathew Owens could also be called Matthew Egan.

Many thanks for your seriously fast response to my quiry! You have given me several very viable leads which I've started working on by substituing Michael for Matthew as Rose's father and adding Mary Johnson.  I DNA tested my now-deceased parents as well as several couisns on my Dad's/Rose's side [all complicated, of course, by the fact that my parents were 7th cousins] and may be able to confirm or not over time using DNA .

I am suspecting that Mathius/Tathius Egan baptised 1834 may be the oldest sibling of a family whose names are reflected in the birth names given Rose's US born children and will track down that potential. [Her husband's 1st son from his 1st marragie carries the given name of his father].  Mathius is too young to be Rose's  father as she was born 1843-1846; but as an older brother his name may have been confused as her father at her death in 1927 especially if the parents did not emmigrate from Ireland.  I did locate a Catherine Egan born C 1846 in Ireland getting married in Essex County, Ontario, Canada just accross a 1 mile river from Detroit Michigan, whose parents were also Michael Egan and Mary Johnson.  I am looking at Co Mayo in the years of The Great Hunger, so I expect many early deaths and emmigrations.  I will look into Patrick Egan from 1855 in Cullentragh, Bekan, Mayo as he may be a sibling that survived and stayed--maybe by moving to farm his wife's family's land?  All that said, at first search it seems only Mathius and Rose were baptised in Bekan RC parish as children of Michael/Mary between 1834 and 1846.        

Would it be reasonable to suspect that sponsor Bridget was the mother or sister of Michael Egan??
