My first visit to Ireland will be to Dublin June 26 27th and 28th. And then I'll be in Ardara  June 12 to the 17th. Looking for any family information on the Sharpe, Munday, Gallagher, Duffy Family's. Francis Sharpe was probably born in the late 1790s he married Grace MUNDY. There is still a Sharpe Family home in PORTNOO.And they would be my second great grandparents their son CONDY emigrated  to Lansford Pennsylvania as did his wife Hannah, Nora, Gallagher. Her father was John Gallagher I'm guessing born about the late 1790s who married Grace Duffy. Please feel free to contact me I have a public tree on ancestry I have a Gedmatch number and I can't believe this is happening keep your fingers crossed. Lisa

  • Hi Lisa!

Unfortunately, the RC records ( I assume your family was RC) for Ardara RC parish do not begin until 1856 for marriages and 1868 for baptisms. Finding pre-1850 RC parish records for Co. Donegal parishes is very difficult.

The 1857 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Inishkeel civil parish has a number of Sharp(e) records and a number of John Gallagher records. See below.

Let me know if you have ancestors who were born in the parish post 1863 or families who might be in the 1901 census.

Have a great trip! It does not appear we have a volunteer in Inishkeel parish.

  • Lisa:

I forgot to ask, can you clarify when you will be in Ardara. You indicate that you are in Dublin June 26-28 but in Ardara June 17-22. Should it be July 17-22? We like to keep a database of our members coming to Ireland.

  • Rodger May I also ask you a question about the Sharpe family. What I understand it was a name change from GERIN but there's about 12 different variations of that spelling. Also Francis Sharpe married Grace MUNDAY/Mundy. I understand that might've been Mcloone!  But I do not know her father's first name and I believe she was born late 1790s. Thank you again.

  • Roger I had the most wonderful time in Ireland. The tour of Ireland I did for two weeks was amazing but the best part was our family reunion in Donegal, Portnoo. We stayed in Ardara. We toured around with Marie Gallagher  from Gallagher Cabs and that was awesome. But so many Sharpe family showed up for the reunion in Portnoo it was beautiful I feel like I’ve known them forever and it was the first time I met any of this family. There must’ve been 30 people in and out all day homemade food outstanding but I did want to tell you that when I was in Dublin I did meet Teresa your volunteer I think will be best friends for life. My Sharpe family was there definitely before the 1800s and  the house in Portnoo has a thatched roof and is kept absolutely beautiful. Mamie’s Place. My aunt and cousin still live there. And a lot of the family surrounds that area. Didn’t get a chance to do much on the research side we were too busy sightseeing. Hope to get back one day but I don’t know when. So any information anybody has is greatly appreciated. Lisa
