I am looking for information on my Sheehan family who lived at Moninamuck until they left for England around 1840-45. Jeremiah Sheehan was a Land Surveyor, his wife was Mary Laherty and their children were: Judith 1818, Catherine 1821, Mary 1823, Margaret 1828, Jerry 1833 and Michael 1835 (my ggrandfather). In the 1861 census Mary Sheehan is living in Heaton Norris, Stockport, with Jeremiah & Michael.
What I would like to discover is where they may have lived at Moninamuck... what happened to Jeremiah senior? Did the girls all marry before Mary & the boys went to England? In 1845 they would have been 27, 24, 22 & 17 and descendants may well still be in the area today. I believe Moninamuck is better known today as The Steeple and is on the opposite side of Johnstown to Urlingford. Thanks for looking. Jim Phelan

Jim:
The townland was Moneynamuck (Stopford) in Erke civil parish just north of Urlingford. The 1849 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Erke civil parish shows three Sheehan records including a Mary in Moneynamuck (Stopford). I'm wondering if Mary was still there in 1849, the listing is for her daughter, it is another Mary or the property still had Mary's name on the records even though she was in England.
You won't find a death record for Jeremiah. Civil registration started in 1864. I checked Roots Ireland and did nto find a Sheehan marriage in Urlingford RC church from 1835-1845.

Thanks again for a speedy response. My ggrandfather Michael is rumoured to have arrived in England not yet 'britched' so around 5 or 6 which dates it circa 1840. Assuming he came with his mother, the Mary Sheehan still in Erke was possibly his sister. I visited the area this summer but have no idea whereabouts their home could have been in relation to The Steeple.

Jim:
www.askaboutireland.ie Go to the Griffiths Tab. You should be able to see where the Sheehan properties were in 1849 and they also allow you to see a view of the present day properties.
