My great grandparents John Spillane and Honora Wilson had 3 children baptized in the Watergrasshill parish in the 1850's and soon after came to America. I am looking for information about their parents and siblings, their marriage, and their early years. John changed the name to Spence. He might have lived in England for a short time. Thank you!

Hi,
Thank you very much for your message. I hope that someone with information on the family makes a connection with you.
In the meantime did you know that church records from the parish are available online free of charge at http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/ Hopefully you will be able to find something relating to the family there.
Another useful website is the IRish TImes where they show you what records are available in each RC parish. For Watergrasshill follow this link:
You could also check for record of the family in the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
Have you tried looking into John?s emigration? Sometimes more information can be found in these immigration papers. Also, check any legal documents such as death certs to see if any parents? names are listed. For more information on US governments documents check the National Archives at: http://www.archives.gov/
