Good Morning,
In researching my ancestors in St Marys, Clonmel, Tipperary, I notice in the Catholic Parish registers that the years March 1847=Nov 1853 are missing. Does anyone know why? Was there a fire? Do the records exist but just aren't digitized yet? Or were they just lost over time?
Naturally, the ancestor I need is in those missing years. i need to know if this info is something I just have to wait for, or is it lost forever.
Thank you for your time.
Barbara

Hi, Names would help in searching, as we can pick up in other sites.
Parish Registers, sometimes the Priest took them with them to another Parish.
Also depends on where in Clonmel (which side of the river) as somes records are under County Waterford.

Hi Margot,
All I know is that they are the children of Michael Ryan and Catherine Keating from St. Mary's Parish, Clonmel. I show four children staring with James born 1835 and ending with Maria born 1843. (Info from rootsireland.ie)
I am looking for Catherine born 1849 but when i go to the registers the pages from March 1847 to November 1853 are missing.
What can you tell me about this parish? I am confused about where to find information on it. I assume the DED is Clonmel? (I did find that in the National Archives for the censuses) but when I go to look for the family in Griffiths, it asks me to choose betwen Tipperary, Tipperary North Riding and Tipperary South Rididng. Where is St. Mary's Clonmel?
Any help that you can give me would be most appreciated, as this is all very confusing to me.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Barbara,
Confusing! yes, but I will explain.
County Tipperary was split into two Ridings in the 1800's, North and South.
If you get a map and look for Thurles, above Thurles was North and below was South.
There were two County Towns, Nenagh in the North and Clonmel in the South.
Since, I think about 2012c they are all one now, Nenagh is the county Town (I was born there)
In Griffiths Valuation, Tipperary South Riding, you need to know the Parish, so St.Marty's Clonmel.
This link below shows 4 Michael Ryan's in Clonmel and their Landlord. This is in 1850.
This first one shows Walter Keating as the his landlord. Copy the whole of the link into seach/google if the link doesn't open.
http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=doNam…In Rootsireland it usually states the address, if not have you got the date and month of James and Maria please.
Otherwise it's one of the 4 in the above link.In some records it shows (TIPP) this is for Tipperary Town in County Tipperary.
This site below does have the records but some are hard to read. Rootsireland got their records from here. If the inputter couldn't read the page then they left it.
Look at the map for Tipperary and you will see St Mary's Clonmel and you will see how it goes over into County waterford.

In the Census records.....
The DED is the District Electorial Division.
When you search just use the names you are to search, and then add other info reducing the results, if you put everything in you would have to be a walking book to know every DED Parish etc. and some DED's overlap Parishes and townlands..
Earlier records are the Tithe records see the link below, when you search as this is key sensitive put names in like mic* as it may be michael, michal or michl
You can do this with a * on any site if it works or % or " a name " it just depends on how it's been input. If you know of any marriages to the names you listed and deaths there are other sites to search, all free, but I don't want to overload you!
I hope this explains,

One more thing
http://ifhf.rootsireland.ie/quis.php?page=0&prevStartQuery=0
These are the four children I find for Michael Ryan and Catherine Keating.
I am looking for Catherine b 1849 and possibly others.
The parish registers stop from March 1847 to November 1853. What do you make of that?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I don't live in Clonmel, I do visit now and again.
I was born in Nenagh, then we moved to England and now Wales.
I know Ireland quite well, especially graveyards.
I go to Festivals and during the day I look for people requesting information on their families.
I don't do as many now as a lot of info is online.
Your Catherine, you can pick up the year in the site and you will have to look through each page, they are hard to read.
Good luck
