Stephen Francis Glenn is my great grandfather, who from the info I have was born in Navan, Meath, Ireland in Dec 1835. He immigrated to the US and arrived in New York in Jul 1852.  He married Margaret Masterson in 1868 in Muscatine, Iowa, USA. Margaret was born in Tullow, Carlow, Ireland on 10 Jun 1838, the daughter of Alexander Masterson and Anne Nancy Nolan.

I don't have any records to support the info I have on Stephen Glenn in Ireland, so I am looking to get factual information. The oral information I have says that his father's first name was Michael.

Thank you for any help. Tom Glenn

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and could not find a baptismal record for Stephen Glenn or Francis Glenn in Co. Meath. In fact there were only three Glenn baptismal records on the Roots Ireland data base in Co. Meath and the earliest was 1851. The Navan baptismal records are on Roots Ireland and go back to 1782. However, the NLI parish register shows a gap between 1813 and 1842 https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0955 so maybe Stephen's baptismal record is not available. I need to check further.

  • Roger,

Thank you for your prompt reply and the actions you took. It's interesting to me that you are associated with the Castlemore Roscommon Parish.  In the 1990s, I was on a plane flight from the US to Scotland and the person sitting next to me had the exact same name as mine, Thomas Joseph Glenn.  He was a Catholic priest who said he was from Ballaghaderreen, going to visit his mother there.  He told me I should look for my Glenn ancestors in his home area, even though the oral history was that Stephen Glenn was from Navan.

    Again, Thanks, Tom Glenn

I just heard back from the Heritage Center in Meath which is located in Trim. They confirmed a gap in records which includes the time period when Stephen was baptized. I asked them to correct the page which implies that records are continuous from 1782. One of my grandmothers was also from Ballaghaderreen.
