Hi,  I have ancestors who were known to be in the Carrightohill Area in the early 1800s.  I found a record of my 2x great grandparents marriage on 14-Feb-1833 in Carrigtohill (John Keleher and Mary Minihan).  I have reason to believe that John passed before 1853 and his widow was living in Banshane in 1853.  Grifins Valuation in 1853 had her in Baneshane with a small garden.

In Ballyvodock (East and West) were Kellehers and Mulcahys; both are related to me.  In baneshane were Mahigans (not sure if this could be related to Minihans).  Always searching for more defined records.

Thanks, Annie

  • Annie,

You might find something in the Tithe Applotment Books for Mogeesha at the following link http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/pagestab/Cork/Mogeesha/. The records were taken in 1834. You might also find something in the Valuation Office House or field or tenure books (from the late 1840's) at this link http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/pagestab/Cork/Mogeesha/. You can do a search for the townland by leaving all fields blank, except for filling out the parish name and the townland name and choosing 'house book', 'field book' or 'tenure book' in the option for 'book'. You can also do a search for the parish by leaving the 'townland' blank. There are records there, but careful of spellings! Get back to me if you have trouble with these.

    Best wishes, Kieran
