I am looking for information on Thomas Burke. He was born around May 15 1820 and emigrated to the USA around age 26 (1846+/-). Our family oral history indicated that his spouse Ellen came with him on a ship called the Sarah Milledge. The ships manifesto only shows Thomas Burke. We have no information on Ellen could be Hellen. They lived in New York, New York for several years and moved to Wisconsin around 1856 with a son David Burke Sr. My wife and I will be visiting Ireland this summer late July and August.

  • Charles,

On FindMyPast, I located NYC baptisms for three children: David, John, and an Ellen.  The parents are Thomas Burke and Ellen Noonan. (Her surname is missing from David’s baptismal record.)

If you contacted the individual churches for the full baptismal records, you would get the sponsors’ names and maybe the parents’ places of birth in Ireland.

    I hope this is helpful.

  • Hello Patrica, Thank you for your help. I have reached out to the St. Bridgit's Parish, and they are looking for a marriage license for Thomas and Ellen. Hoping to find lineage on Thomas and Ellen's parents in Ireland. Apparently, Ellen Noonan emigrated from Ireland on another ship? and later. The hunt continues. Appreciate your help very much. Charley
