Hi, wonder if anyone knows anything about Thomas Cooke, teacher at the school in Clones, Monaghan, around 1860? He may have died and been buried in Clones. One of his sons married an Annie Whiteley, also of Clones, in about 1861; they, and at least some of the remaining family, were settled in Belfast by 1877. The family were, we think, Presbyterian.
We think Thomas' wife Eliza was originally Eliza Ashfield, and we think widowed by 1870. Also, although Ashfield is a Tyrone name, we think she and Thomas married in Co Armagh in the 1830s
However, it's Thomas we're looking for. Is there any info that's not online, maybe graveyard or burial, or school, records?
thanks, Maureen

Hi Maureen,
There is an entry in Griffith's Valuation - www.askaboutireland.ie - Free Site - Thomas Cooke, Gransha More, Clones
(a) Presbyterian Meeting House - House and Land (b) National School House (c) Thomas Cooke, House and Garden.
The landlord is Sir Thomas Lennard. Civil Parish of Clones.
Irish ParishRegister - Ffoliet Collection - Thomas Cooke, born April 28th 1861 son of John and Anne, Clones. Journeyman Sadler. Source: www.findmypast.ie - Subscription Site.
The National Archives in Dublin should have a record of the school. The records are stored and from previous experience, it takes 2 to 3 days to have them produced in the library, so that you can access them.

Hi all,
thanks for the information. How do I contact the National Archives for the 1860 Clones school records by email? Also, would they email an image of the records? Or would we need to go there in person (a bit difficult at present)?
Cheers, MaureenMaureenN

MaureenN,
There’s a bit here about the records in the National Archives. The ED series files usually contain comment son the teachers performance and the Inspectors overall views of the school. In addition, Findmypast have some attendance records on-line.

I am not sure that you’ll get any response from the National Archives at present, as they are closed due to Covid.

I couldn't find anything about Thomas Cooke, I am really happy that I found this forum. I always start to work on my essays at the last minute, so I am always stressed, especially when I can't find any information about the topic I have to write about. Plus, due to lack of time, I don't write them properly, I have many mistakes, so I use this service https://www.topessayeditors.com/ which edits it very quickly and makes it unique. Also, it has affordable prices, and thanks to it, as I can always speak with the editor, I know where I should pay attention more when I am writing an essay to make fewer mistakes.
