Looking for info on Bernard Goss and Alice Lynch. My 2nd great grandfather is Thomas born 1862 Faughart Parish. I find a Bernard and Alice in Strandfield, Crockonish, and Marsh in Catholic parish records. Suspect they're all the same family, but uncertain?

Hi Karachi13, the marriage took place in Dundalk on 26th Sept. 1861, her address is given as Faughart, There are no parents name given, it appears there are a few Goss families around the area from the baptisms I looked at, some of the children are born post 1864 so the certs are free to view on Irish Genealogy. The church entry does not give the parents names unfortunately.
A Michael Goss married an Ann Muckian of North Marches as transcribed, this is in my opinion Marshes, there is now a large shopping mall there called the Marshes. The other marriage is of a Susan Goss to Joseph Fegan around the same time.
Unfortunately the baptism records only commmence for Faughart in 1851 so Bernard and Susan are not available, there are two Michaels born in Louth, one in 1839 and one in 1840, appear to be the same parents so assume the first man died, mothers name given as Sands and Sandys but this is in Dundalk.
Griffiths Valuation of 1854 shows a Peter Goss living in Castletown civil parish and this may be your man, there are 7 Goss names, not necessarily 7 different Goss as this is a land register, there are also some in the Marshes http://askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=nameSearc…;
There is a site here on Louth and there are some Goss mentions, http://www.jbhall.clahs.ie/ you may find a death entry and if so we may be able to look up the inscription.
There are no records of Alice Lynch born in Louth however there are two Alice Lynch's born in Upper Killeavy, Armagh, this parish adjoins Faughart which is along the county boundary, you can see them both on Registers NLI site. 1838 Alice has a mother Mary Traynor and a father John Lynch, 1834 Alice has a mother Mary A Letters, I would look at that entry for myself if I were you. https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0198 search by month and year and it is 18th June. Father is Michael.
There is a Louth genealogy private group on Facebook, apply to join, I had a search and there maybe one person with a Goss interest there.
Good Luck

Hi Pat!
Thanks for your quick and detailed response! I will look into the leads you have given me. Can you tell me where you found the marriage date? I have searched high and low and the only Bernard Goss marriage date I could find was to Catherine Waters in 1841. Have often wondered if that is Bernard Sr. Or if possibly Alice was a second wife.
I applied to the Facebook site and will be checking it out. Hope to get past my brick wall
Thanks again!Karin

Hi Karin, the marriage is on the subscription site Roots Ireland and you should be able to see the entry in the Faughart marriage register on the Registers NLI site mentioned in my answer. The witnesses were Pat Rice and Margaret Moran. It is unfortunate that Faughart records are so late starting. Also I do not see any Goss on the Tithe Applottments of 1824 to 1838, this is only for landowners above 1 acre. It is an unusal name and appears in a few places around the country both Catholic and Presbyterian, oddly it is not in McLyaghts book of Irish Surnames but then it is rare.
I will keep an eye as I go to see if there are any more Goss turning up, I live in Louth and there are still Goss names around Dundalk.
The Louth site may help. There is a site here about a town in south Louth and there is a mention of a Goss headstone in Clogherhead and that funny name address on the baptisms appears to be mentioned in the lengthy piece which I did not read in full. http://www.termonfeckinhistory.ie/index.html Search Goss and only one hit.
The address on the baptisms I cannot find in the civil records on this site https://www.townlands.ie/
This site shows the townlands in English and Irish but the Irish piece is not alphabethical. https://www.logainm.ie/en/ord/
Good Luck
