Hi there,

I was hoping you can help me.  My ancestor Thomas Jackson was born in Castlecomer, Kilkenny circa 1769.  He died on the 24th November, 1865 at Aughamucky, Muckalee,Castlecomer, Kilkenny.  Informant was Edward Crennan. He married Mary Mulally.  They had following children Catherine/Elizabeth/ Julia or Judith and Margaret.  I have been searching for his parents to no avail and was hoping you may be able to help.

Kind regards Kim Angus

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

You don't mention the religious denomination but neither the RC or Church of Ireland records for Castlecomer go back to 1769. The C of I records start in 1799 and the RC records start in 1808.

I did locate Tithe Applotment records for Castlecomer for 1823 which show Thomas Jackson in Aghamucky/Aughamucky. However, there is no second Jackson and likely his father was deceased in 1823.

  • Thank you very much for all your help.  So how would I go about searching now for probably would it be his baptism record?  I have no information regarding RC of Church of Ireland for him or his children  however I do have information for one of his granchildren who was married in a Catholic Church.

His baptismal record is no longer available. Many of the old records were thrown away, lost, or burned in a fire. The Castlecomer records comparatively go back pretty far, We have many RC parishes in the West of Ireland that have records starting in the 1850s or later. All the best with your research.
