I have traced my family to Thomas James Fitzsimmons believed to be born in Cavan around 1824. I cant seem to find out his acutal birth date or his partents names or anything else regarding the family prior. I am quite sure he was catholic and moved to Cubmbermauld, Dunbartionshire Scotland where he married Sarah A. Foreman in 1850 and died there on 22 Jun 1897
Can anyone help?
Best regards,
Wes

Wes,
The Scotlandspeople site has an RC marriage for Thomas Fitsimons or Foreman to Sarah Ann Foreman in Dundee, St Andrew’s parish, on 8th May 1850.
There is a death in Cumbernauld in 1897 for a Thomas Fitzsimmons aged 73. GROS ref 495/26. That death certificate should give you his parents’ names. It should also tell you whether Sarah was alive or dead at that date. I looked for a possible death for her but did not see one.

I had a quick look at the indexes for the 1891 Scottish census. There’s a Thomas Fitzsimmons aged 70 in Cumbernauld with sons Patrick 27 & John 24. (I don’t see Sarah). And next door there’s a Hugh Fitzsimmons (26) with his wife Catherine. (25) and son John (4 months). I’d guess Hugh was also a son. You could investigate those, by checking earlier censuses and birth records.
They were probably in the mining industry.
It may help your search to know that Cumbernauld is in Lanarkshire, rather than Dunbartonshire.

Well, this facility should be available to the general public so anyone can find his family just like do my assignment for cheap service which is available to general public. So stand by and try hard to get access to the service.

Elwyn,
Thank you for your quick response. I now have a copy of the church record for Thomas & Sarah's marriage. I already had the death notice for both of them. It states his father as being Thomas but I cant decipher the name of his mother's name, I think it may be Smith? see attached.
Although this is great information I still cant figure out Thomas birth - the 1870 census it states he was born in "Cy Cavin, Ireland" (which I assumed to be Cavan, IR) as for when he was born: the documents I have found state about 1823, 1824 and 1828.

Cy is short for county. So Cy Cavan is County Cavan. (We put the word county before it’s name unlike some countries which put it after).
In general, people in Ireland in the 1800s didn’t celebrate birthdays, didn’t have birth certificates or passports (though they might sometimes have had a baptismal cert) and often had little accurate idea of their ages. Many ages on official documents then were just a guess.
I’d say Sarah’s mother’s maiden name was McCormack. (I am sure the first letter is C. If you look at the last column on the form, the Registrar was in “Cumbernauld”, and the C in that word is the same). McCormack is a common enough surname in Cavan, and Ireland generally.

I think you are correct on Sarah's mothers name - I can now go back to researching James & Mary FitzSimmons
Thanks again for your help.
