Hi I’m researching the history of a family who lived in Kerry for a number of years. At the moment I’m looking for the birth record of a Thomas Lovett who was born in 1811 and his father may have been a John Lovett. I’m also looking for his marriage record. I know Thomas married a Helen (Nellie) Copper sometime before 1845. Both of these events happen in County Kerry and there is an possibility they happen in the parish of Kilgarvan. I thank you in advance for any help you can give me in locating these records. Sincerely, Charlie Corley

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The RC records for Kilgarvan start in 1818 so too late for Thomas' baptismal record.

Marriages normally occurred in the bride's parish. I searched on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie which has Co. Kerry church records and did not find a marriage record. Maybe Nellie's parish does not have records back to the 1840s. Can you confirm if the couple was RC or C of I.

    Hi Roger,

Thank you for your quick reply to my message. Both of them were Roman Catholics.

I searched again and expanded the search to Co. Cork and still no marriage record. Kilgarvan borders Co. Cork.

Hi Charlie,   I am new to this site and was browsing through some of my family names.  I too am researching Lovetts.  I have a Thomas Lovett who was the father of Patrick b.abt 1834.  Im putting Thomas's birthdate poss close to the one you are also looking at.  I have no information on a wife for Thomas.  His son Patrick married Mary Macarthy in 1857 and a census names Patricks place of birth as Kerry with a residence of Dawros. Not too much to go on but any of this information familiar ??    lynn

  • Hi Lynn,

I reviewed your post and checked my records and I don't believe there is a connection between our Thomas Lovett. I did find my Thomas married a Helen Sullivan not a Helen Copper (incorrect information on a marriage record here in Massachusetts). They did have son named Patrick who was born in 1845 and he married a Honoria Buckley. They are my great grandparents. Also, I haven't found any of my family members living in Dawros. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

    Take care,

    Charlie

  • Hi Everyone,

I’m trying to locate the marriage record of a John Lovett and Catherine Kit Harrington. According to my mother recollection they were the grandparents of her father, Thomas Lovett. John is listed in the Griffith Valuation of 1852 as living in the townland of Coomclogherane which is located in County Kerry. Any help you can give will be much appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Charlie

  • Hi Charlie
I am married to a Healy from Kilgarvan. There certainly is/was Lovetts in Coomclogherane, Kilgarvan, Kerry. The name has now changed to McCarthy in one house and the other house has closed since the last of family passed away approx 10 or 15 years ago.
As for the Sullivan mix up with Copper you mention. I wonder could it be Cooper rather than Copper and there is Sullivans in Kilgarvan that are referred to as the Sullivan Coopers. Sullivan being the correct surname.
We don't live in Kilgarvan but would be familiar with many family names there so I think you are definitely on the right track.
    Best of luck
    Niamh
