I would like to find out more about both of these people in our family tree.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Since the marriage was non-RC, a civil record was established. The father of Helen was James and the father of Thomas was Daniel.
The 1855 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Ballysakeery civil parish shows James Baird in Mullafarry townland. The McKenzies were from Rathmore townland in Crossmolina civil parish which is southwest of Ballysakeery.
I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland and located two baptismal records for a Thomas McKenzie with a father Daniel. The family was Church of Ireland. Possibly the child born in 1827 died in infancy, the mother was pregnant fairly quickly and then had your ancestor in 1828? Thomas had a number of siblings: John 1818 William 1820 Michael 1822 Bridget 1825 Robert 1831 Daniel 1834. I did not find a baptismal record record for Helen likely becuase the Ballysakeery Presbyterian baptismal records start in 1844.
Let me know what questions you have.
