I'd like to find the origin of 3rd gr grand Thomas Ryan who was born in Ire abt 1824. He was in Lowell, MA by 1860 census with wife Mary (Mulcahy) and son John, b. Ireland abt 1845, and son Michael b. MA 1855 as well as daug Mary Ann and my 2nd gr grand Thomas Henry Ryan both born MA. I have what may be his widow's Civil War Pension to check out. Also a death record for a Thomas Ryan who died in Cambridge MA (where my Ryan family had relocated to) for Jul 27, 1891 that lists Michael Ryan and Elizabeth Gilchenan as parents.

Hello Maureen,
I went onto www.rootsireland.ie and found a baptismal record for John Ryan, father Thomas Ryan and mother Mary Mulcahy in the parish of Portlaw in Co. Waterford in 1844.
I then searched for the marriage record of his parents and found a record for Thomas Ryan married Mary Mulcahy in the parish of Kill, Co. Waterford in 1843.
You will need to pay to view these records on this site but it's not expensive when you have narrowed it down to the correct record.
I think it would be worth it to get more information.
Regards,
Anne Dennehy

I am gobsmacked. I must say I truly believed nothing would come of my posts. I can't keep up with the great information I am getting! Still registering at rootsireland and I cannot thank you enough. So happy.

I wonder if this might be Thomas Ryan's birth record? He'd be a bit far from Waterford, but the names sure do match up nicely:
Thomas Ryan Possible Birth in Meath.pdfElizabeth Gilsenan and Michael Mulryan, which is another version of Ryan. The year of birth is certainly close enough!
