Greetings from the USA,

I am seeking information on my 2nd great grandfather, Timothy Neville, born July 6, 1828.  There is a baptism record for him being baptised on August 1, 1828  Inchigeelagh Parish with parents listed as Daniel Nevill and Nancy Belle.  I am not 100% certain if I have the correct person.  My Timothy immigrated to Connecticut and became a naturalized American citizen in 1859.  He lived in Stafford Springs, CT and worked in a woolen mill.   While still living in Ireland he married Maria Gilmartin.

On a marriage record for his daughter(in Connecticut) Timothy's birth place was listed as County Kerry, but I have not been able to confirm that information.  I have a few other records that do indicate Cork as his birthplace.  There is a 2nd Tim Neville, born in a different parish in Cork, but in May, 1829.

I always thought Neville was an English name, so if anyone could shed light on Neville as an Irish name, I would be eternally greatful.  Thank you for any advice/assistance in finding out more about my ancestors.    Sincerely,       Stephanie White

The subscription site Roots Ireland had another record in 1829. See transcription below. I also searched on the free site www.irishgenalogy.ie and did not find any marriage record to Maria Gilmartin.

Neville was not a rare surname in Ireland in the mid-19th century. Cork had the most Neville households followed by Wexford and Limerick but the name was found in many other counties including Kerry.

What was the name of Timothy's eldest son?

    Roger McDonnell
