  • The Clare Library site has these for Clare county only.  I've checked the ones at NAI http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/  and there is one difference.  Clare libraries Tithe records have a notes column which includes the actual townland names.  At least in Clare, the townland recorded is a put together name that encompasses several townlands.

For my example, I use Feakle Parish Tithes: http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/tithe_applot/feakle_tab.htm

The Tithe townland names don't correlate much if at all with the actual townland names,  The townland of my interest is Laccaroe Lower or Lecarrow Lower and is enumerated here as Lackarunoe.  When I review the notes column, I will see the actual townland names and will find the one of my interest shown in notes as:

"Lower Lackaroe, part; Thady McNamara, Den's McNamara & James McNamara"

So reading all the notes column, we find that Tithe enumerated townland of Lackarunoe encompasses the actual townlands of:

    - Kyle

    - Rossinure [Rossanure]

    - Lackaros Mountain

    - Clashmore

    - Gurrane

    - Coar [Core]

    - Lower Lackaroe [Lower Laccaroe / AKA Lower Leccarow

    - Rabbit Park

Here is the Clare Library instruction to transcribers which included what to put in the notes column: http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/tithe_applot/tab_guidelines.htm

I don't know how this list [notes column] was compiled unless townland maps were used with the names of land occupiers and actual townland names in the composite townland.

I've reviewed the NAI images and don't find the actual townland names listed, so using NAI you may be missing a piece of the puzzle.  If I find out more will post here.

    All the best,

    James McNamara
