Hello,

My name is Johnny Long, Chapel Hill, North Carolina. I'm still searching for his place of birth and any other information available for my ancestors.

John Long is my g,g,g,g grandfather who was born in ca. 1750. His son, Tobias Long, born 1785, is my g,g,g grandpa.

Tobias and his family are found at the John McGee’s Estate Sale in Sandy Creek section of old Guilford (present day Randolph) County, North Carolina.

Tobias Long is listed in Guilford Co. BONDS, BILLS, & NOTES TAKEN 13 Dec. 1773. Tobias, Edward, Israel, Solomon, and John Longe (Long) are on the LIST OF ACCOUNTS & ESTATE SALE, 24 Feb. 1774. Tobias Is believed to be the father of the Long men, who is my immigrant ancestor.

Other records say Tobias and his wife (unknown) came to America about 1770. Reportedly he is from Ireland and his wife is from Wales. But, I cannot confirm.

Can anyone help me identify Tobias Long's family? Tobias and John were common names for 3 or 4 generations. My g,g,g,g grandpa, John Long had children named Benjamin, Martha, Leah, Isaiah, Tobias, Mary, Isaiah, Jesse, and Owen. Maybe these names will help in identify Tobias Long's place of birth, his parents, and other information. John and his children lived in northwest North Carolina, from 1784 until the first part of the 1800's. John died in 1836.

Thanks in advance for your help and assistance!

  • That is very interesting. Thank you. Since my Tobias arrived in America around 1770, he would have taken a ship leaving in 1769/70 timeframe. I wonder where he departed? Thanks!
