I am trying to trace my great great grandmother Ann Kelly, who we think was born in Mitchelstown in 1821. We believe that she went to Jamaica and there married John Eddie, a Scots plantation manager from Elgin in Morayshire. He was working at Norbrook near Kingston in 1841. We understand that about 25% of the settlers in Jamaica at that time wrere Irish. Ann and John had four children in Jamaica - George, Jane, James and Charles - and moved back to Scotland in 1849 or 1850. Subsequently they had two more children including my great grandmother Margaret Ann Eddie, who was born in 1857.
Any help with sources would be much appreciated!
Best Wishes,
David

David,
Margaret Eddie’s birth is on the Scotlandspeople site. She was born on 27.12.1856 in Elgin. GROS 135/205.
Ann Eddie’s birth was at 18 Hay St, Elgin on 25.3.1861. Parents’ marriage is recorded on her birth cert as 18.7.1843 at Northbrook Estate, Jamaica. That’s on Scotlandspeople.
Also on Scotlandspeople, a possible death for Ann Eddie (nee Kelly) is in Elgin in 1886 GROS ref 135/184 aged 66. That may give you her parents’ names and occupations. (Scottish death certificates generally contain that information).
Possible death for John Eddie in Elgin in 1897, aged 69 GROS ref 135/28.
