I am trying to find out more about my paternal great great grandparents. They married in Enniskerry in1841on 29th November. He is Charles Mooney of Blackrock and she is Rosa McAnny. No parents names are recorded . Witnesses are Patrick McAnny and Patrick Costello .They then moved to Booterstown Black rock where they had 8 children . Each time the births were recorded Rose had a different spelling of her surname with it never appearing as McAnny again . Charles was a gardener. I have tried to find other McAnny records for Enniskerry but can't find any ! I have found McAneny but no Rose/Rosa. Would be grateful for some help. Frances.

I think the best clue to Rose's family is probably the witness to her marriage Patrick McAnney, from what I've seen witnesses tended to be the same generation as the bride and groom, so there's a reasonable chance that this Patrick was a brother to Rose. There is a possible baptism match for a Patrick in an index to the Bray registers, the priest has noted the surname as 'McAnemy Or Mcaneney'. This Patrick was baptised 28th May 1817, parents Patrick and mother Margaret (no maiden surname recorded) - see this page.
It would not be unusual for Rose's baptism not to be properly recorded, and could also have been on a section of the register long since lost or damaged in some way. The other possibility of course is that Rose was baptised in another area, another possibility to consider is that maybe your Rose was baptised with a different name, and used Rose in later life.
