Good Morning,

I am looking for someone to tell me if I am correctly translating the Tithe Record for my ancestor John Mealy. (County Wexford, Parish of St. James and Dunbrody, Townland of Grange, 1833)

Is it true that he owns/rents 2 acres and 1 rod of land, that is of the Fourth quality, and that he has paid 1 pound, 16 shillings, and 11 pence in rent, and that the real acreable value of his land in 10 shillings, and that the amount of compositon for the tithe holding is 1 shilling and 3 pence?

Does he own or rent this land?

Thank you for your time.

Ellen

  • Looks like he rented. I went back to where my people were and they rented but it stated the landlord, different counties and different years state different information. Where did you get your info. Which site? Ancestry have not put the page number in so you cannot go back. If you put the Parish St James and Dunbrody and Grange there are 39 records.... go in each one until you get to the front of the records possibly you would then see who the landlord is. Possibly the Parish own it. Margot
