I haven't been able to trace many of my relatives back to an exact area in Ireland yet, but am not giving up hope! Hennigan is the name I'm looking for (Thomas or Patrick are the names I have found) I did ancestry DNA and it shows all Kerry and Cork. Any help would be great! I'm going to Ireland in August and would love to find some leads to chase :) -Shannon

  • Hi Shannon (great Irish name!),

www.rootsireland.ie/ has 3 Thomas Hennigan baptisms in Cork: 1830, 1863 & 1918; Parishes are Ballyclough, Caochford & Milford (roots doesn't have Kerry records). There are 4 for Patrick: 1833 Macroom, 1875 Milford; 1908 Milford & 1910 Milford

The Tithe Applotments are free on line (  http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/) and have 4 Hennigans in Cork & 2 in Kerry in the 1820's but no Thomases or Patricks

www.rishgenealogy.ie/ is a free site which has Thomas & Patrick Hennnigan baptism & marriage records from Cork & a couple for Patrick from Kerry

  • Hi Shannon,
Jane Halloran Ryan of IrelandXO asked me to try to help with your query.
In order to have a specific to answer, could you give me any indication of a time frame when the Hannigens were in Ireland and/or when they left here.
I will do my best to help you but need a rough starting point for any of the family you might know.
You may reply to me through IrelandXO or to my personal email, frankfahy@eircom.net
Happy & Healthy New year to you.

  • Hi Shannon,

apologies for delay in getting back to you but I have been very busy.

I have searched for your ancestors but so far have had no success. You gave the name of Patrick born on 24 March 1870 in Ireland. As a means to help me, could you tell me where you got this very positive sounding information which I have failed to locate to date. If you can direct me to the information location, it would be a great help as I may be able to pin down the locality and consequently the family.

I have also unsuccessfully tried to access your Family Tree link but have been in touch with IrelandXO and hope to have this difficulty resolved shortly.

I look forward to hearing from you again soon.
