I am trying to trace my ancestors and have found that they may have come from the Cashell area,

they are as follows, Denis Dwyer born about 1806 married Margaret surname unknown, born about 1808, children birth dates about Honora 1839, William 1843, Mary Agnes 1843, Timothy 1846, Michael 1847 and Peter James 1857. Denis was a farmer and the religion Roman Catholic. The family left Tipperary 1858 on assisted passage to South Australia Australia on the ship Storm Cloud via Plymouth.

Any help in tracing the family would be grateful

Peter Dwyer.  Email seadragon49@hotmail.com

  • HI - Thank you for your message.

Most Catholic records are held locally - One site which might be of use is - http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/ - where you can ?browse? an overview of available records per county. If you have any difficulty, you could try writing to the parish priest for possible assistance.

Valuations office in Dublin (http://www.valoff.ie) will have a record of the land registry from 1855 to modern times. This will assist in seeing what happened to any land that the family may have had (as it usually passed on to a relation).

Some sites & services that might be helpful to you include:

The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/

The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/

    Irish Newspaper Archives: http://www.irishnewsarchive.com/

Also - Failte Romhat has lots of other useful links you could try looking at ). www.failteromhat.com

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.
