I am hoping to connect with descendants of my grandparents Pierce Turkington and his wife Annie McAree(?) My father was David Turkington, now deceased. There were a few brothers and 2 sisters that I know of.
The family came to Scotland in the 1800's from Belfast County Antrim.

A bit more information would help. When was Pierce born or died? Where in Scotland did he and Annie live? What denomination were they? What records have you already found them in? Roughly when did they leave Ireland? It's hard for us to help you without more detail.

The only additional information I have is that the went to live in Greenock, Scotland.

I am sorry but I can’t help you without more information. You must know more about the family than you have given us here. If you really have no idea when Pierce was born or died, how are we expected to help you? What research have you done on the family so far?

Elwyn,
I will try to get more information.
However, please do pass me along to someone who has a nicer manner and who is not curt in their communication with the public.
My expectation was that I would be coached and encouraged in ways to find my ancestors. Not treated in a surly manner. I am at the beginning of this journey. There are no relatives alive on my paternal side of my family. If there were, surely it stands to reason that I would be seeking information from them and not you!

ScotMum,
I am sorry if I sound curt but you do need to provide some more basic information for us to be able help you. I prompted you in my first reply but you didn’t provide enough information.
You have given us your father’s name but not your mother’s. You said: “There were a few brothers and 2 sisters that I know of.” Some names or general information on when they were born or died might help. That’s why I asked you to provide more. I asked you about the family denomination, and so on, and you didn’t answer those questions. I am trying to help but it’s a two way exercise.
What was your mother’s name? When and where did she and your father die? When were they born? Have you got their birth and marriage certificates? If you haven’t, then assuming the events are all in Scotland, the records should be on Scotlandspeople. You have to pay to view those records. There’s no free access, so we can’t look them up for you. With your parents births you should get their parents names and the date and place they married, and should then be able to go back another generation. And so on.
1911 and earlier, you will find censuses back to 1841.
I can see a Pierce Turkington death in Greenock in 1913, for example, but I have no idea if he is related to you, if you don’t tell me more about your family.

Scotmum,
I suspect your grandfather was named Samuel Turkington, not Pierce. Here’s his marriage to Annie McAree in Belfast in 1898:
This looks to be them in the 1901 Irish census. They evidently moved to Scotland sometime between 1901 & 1911 as they are in the 1911 census in Scotland:

Check your parents marriage certificate to see if Samuel is the correct name for your grandfather.
Pierce Turkington looks to have been your great grandfather. He married twice. First was Eliza Irwin, second Sarah Mayne (nee Jones).
He’ll likely be the 1913 death in Greenock but you’ll need to check that yourself on Scotlandspeople.
