HI MY NAME IS MIKE, MY FAMILY RESEARCH OF MY GREAT GREAT GREAT GRANDFATHER HENRY TURLEY

MAY HAVE RESIDED IN CLONALLAN, HE WAS BORN AROUND 1790 BIRTHPLACE NOT FOUND AS YET.

I HAVE A RECORD THAT HE WAS MARRIED TO A ROSE HEANY ( HENAY ? ) ON 23RD APRIL 1820

IT STATES RESIDENCE AS CLONALLAN-PARISH OF NEWRY -DIOCESE DROMORE

COUNTY ARMAGH ,DOWN.

I HAVE FOUND HENRY TURLEY , AND ROSE HEANY ON THE 1841 LIVERPOOL CENSUS.

HENRY TURLEY DIED IN LIVERPOOL IN 1847 AGED 57 YEARS. I HAVE FOUND MOST OF

MY LIVERPOOL ANCESTORS , DESCENDANTS OF  MY G.G.G GRANDAD HENRY TURLEY.

HE HAD A SON PATRICK TURLEY BORN IN IRELAND ABOUT 1821 , AND A SON JOHN TURLEY

BORN IN IRELAND ABOUT 1826 , BEFORE HE CAME TO LIVE IN LIVERPOOL ENGLAND.

HIS SON PATRICK DIED IN LIVERPOOL IN 1871.

THE SNIPPET OF A  RECORD I HAVE SHOWING CLONALLAN IS THE ONLY LEAD

I HAVE ON MY IRISH ANCESTORS.  

SO I AM AT A DEAD END AT THIS TIME, RESEARCHING IRISH RECORDS ON ANCESTRY

HAVE BEEN FRUITLESS. SO I HAVE POSTED THIS ON THE CLONALLAN MESSAGE BOARD

TURLEY IS MY FAMILY NAME - HENRY TURLEY IS MY ANCESTOR.

  • The marriage you have found is an odd one. It’s in a series of records for Newry RC parish entitled: “Funerals & Dispensations”.  Evidently it wasn’t a funeral but it might have been a dispensation (could be required because of consanguinity or lent). Normally you married in the bride’s parish but perhaps this couple were both temporarily living in Newry. Newry & Clonallan are adjacent. Maybe it is their marriage.

    Clonallan RC parish doesn’t have any records before November 1826 so that may account of the lack of baptisms for Patrick & John. (I can’t find any).

    The bride’s surname was probably Heany or Heaney. A fairly common surname in Co Down. (Over 300 in the county in the 1901 census. Nil Henay).

    I searched the tithe applotment records for Clonallan (which contain details of those with land). There were Torley/Turley households in Dromore, Ballydelaney & Corrigs townlands. And I notice Heney in Dromore & Corrigs too. So perhaps that’s where the couple came from.

    There don’t appear to have been any in Carrogs or Dromore. Heany in Corrigs in 1901:

    If they had left Ireland for Liverpool soon after 1826 there won’t be any other records in Ireland to check. Perhaps a DNA match with someone living there today might identify the right family but I can’t really think of much more that could be done.

  • Thank you  for your replies, Appreciated, yes they are a difficult couple to try and trace,

    I am not sure when they left Ireland for Liverpool,but as i mentioned, Their second son John

    is shown on the 1841 Liverpool Census  born in Ireland 1826, So they left Ireland

    some time between 1826 -1841 ?.

    Thanks Elwyn for letting me know, That the small piece of information i found

    was not a Marriage.

    I will continue my research, and hope to get a solid lead one day as to where My Great Great  Great Grandad
