I will be visiting the area in 3 weeks. Wondering if I could get a tour of both churches & graveyards, as ancestors came from both East & West Bourney.  Had posted their information previously.  Thank you.

  • Hi Betty

Sorry for not responding to your post sooner, I was waiting until I had some information for you. Bournea Reaching Out have a monthly meeting and we held it last night the 3rd of October, we discussed your post and we did a bit of research for you.

Ballyfolin is a Townlands in the parish of Bournea it is not marked on any maps that I know of but some group members knew of it and where it was, it is about half mile from Couraguneen Church on Roscrea side. Michael Campbell came from Ballykelly in the Parish of Bournea, he didn?t own any land but rented a house as shown on the Griffiths Valuation map no 10b in Ballykelly from Robert White Esq. who in turn rented Ref map no 10 from Edward Minchin Esq. Ballykelly and Ballyfolin are about one mile or so distant apart, both in the Parish of Bournea east.

Andrew Aughney is in the 1901 census as the name Haughney in Dromard Beg, in the parish of Killavinoge ( Clonmore) in the next parish about 4 miles from Couraguneen. Andrew is 70, Lizzie 72, they had four children William 42, Andrew 32, Michael 30, and Bridget 29. Andrew is shown to be 90 in the 1911 census and originally came from the Queens County ( Co Laois).

I can?t find anything on Bartholomew Kilbrady. Could be Kilbride? Are you sure you have the right spelling of name?

Of course we will give you a tour of the Churches and Graveyards and we will help you in any way we can. Can you forward your details to Ireland Xo and we can correspond without going through the website.

    Looking forward to seeing you
