Hi, I would like to make contact when in Ireland with my ancestral family members. I live in New Zealand. Originally my ancestors on my maternal side of my family came from Ireland. If anyone recognises the following names it would be great for them to get in touch. My 2nd Great Grandmother Mary Catharine Flynn was born in County Wicklow, Wicklow Leinster Ireland in 1807. She immigrated to New Zealand soon after her marriage.

My Great Grandparent Edward Fahey was born around 1842 in Galway, Ireland and immigrated on the ship Bombay to Auckland New Zealand. His wife Ellen McCormick (also born in Galway Ireland around 1842) immigrated with him. They settled in Bombay, Auckland New Zealand.

I will be travelling to the UK in May 2024 and during this time spending 15 days in Ireland. I would love to make contact with any family members in Ireland related to my grandparents. I'm in the process of completing Ancestry DNA and may have more definitive connections after this.

  • Yes this is definitely my great grandfather. I've seen quite a few NZ records but have been unable to find out more about his time in Ireland before he immigrated.

  • Seonaid,

I have come across some records which show that Edward Fahey was born in County Galway in 1843 to Patrick Fahey and Catherine Carew. Apparently Edward and Ellen married in Liverpool before boarding the Bombay in Plymouth for Auckland.

The records recall the fire in the family home and family members. I am unable to Post them on this Site, as they are regarded as being too large.

Apparently, Edward went to New Zealand as part of the Waikato Immigration Scheme. A photograph of the passengers is recorded as "THE SHIP BOMBAY" -

The 1864 voyage from London to Auckland and the passengers who settled in Bombay.

    Regards,

  • Seonaid,

Please see attached records of the marriage in 1864 of Edward FAHY and Ellen McCormick.

Hopefully, someone in County Galway may recognize Edward Fahey/Fahy.
