I'm looking for information on the Wade family that lived in Dysart. Richard was born in approximately 1816. His father was William Wade and his mother was Eliza. Richard married Ruth Somers in Geashill in 1848 and they went on to have several children. William Henry Wade (my g grandfather) migrated to Australia and at least 3 other sons went to the United States.

Many thanks.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I looked at this listing of the status of Church of Ireland parish registers https://www.ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/registers/ParishRegisters/PARISHREGISTERS.pdf  and it appears that records for Dysart were destroyed in the Public Records Office fire in 1922. (The listing refers you from Dysart to Churchtown and Churchtown has the annotation of destroyed records.)

So no baptismal records are available. I also did not find William Wade in the Tithe listings of the Griffiths Valuation. However, a Richard Wade is listed who I presume is the son. https://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/westmeath/dysart.php

I also did not see any death information for Richard Wade or Ruth Wade. Did they remeain in Ireland?

  • Sorry Roger, somehow I missed your reply to my post . Then life over the last 2 years stopped my research for awhile.
You’re right about Richard being William’s son. Ruth migrated to New York and lived with another son,  and died there. I have a death for a Richard in 1862 which may be my Richard, but I can’t prove it. The executor of his will was a George Wade. I think he may have had a brother named George and also a son. The son also went to New York. The other name in the area I am chasing is Rotherham from Graigue or Grange. Eliza Matilda Rotherham was my 2x Ggrandmother.

    Best wishes,

    Chris
