Looking for any information about possible cemetery burial for my Great Grandfather Edmund Walsh. Died around 1912 or 1913. Lived in Mooresfort at the time. No record of death or burial found as of yet. Searched IrishGeneology.ie and spoke with local Genealogist as well. Thinking may be buried in Lattin Cemetery but not sure. Any help so appreciated. Best, Christine.

Hi Christine, headstone records for Lattin don't seem to be recorded.
Another very old graveyard in the area Mooresford is on line. Also try Emly, it's on historic graves, and was also enumerated by Janet Crawford.
Let me know how you get on.
Christina.

Hi Christina, thank you so much for your reply. I was unable to find my GG at Emly. I have a feeling he is at Lattin. Wish I could speak to the grounds keeper or if there is an office to email. I will just keep trying. I appreciate your help.

Hi again Christine, apologies I said Moorsfort, it should be Mount Bruis. If you Google Mount Bruis graveyard parish of Lattin, there are some very old headstones to Powers and Walsh's.
Have you searched for death notice for your ancestor, on the National Newspapers.
Let me know how you get on.
Christina.

Thanks Christina, unfortunately no luck. Do you know if there is someone I can try to contact for the Lattin Cemetery?

Hi again Christine, no headstones for Lattin recorded yet, but it is hoped to do them
Will let you know if they are recorded.
In the meantime perhaps an email to the local Nationalist newspaper could help address it to letters to the Editor.

Hi Christine,
The gravestones in Lattin were recorded in 2013. I have looked through them, but have not found an Edward Walsh. I have also looked at Mount Bruis without success. Of course, he may have been interred in Lattin, but if so, there is obviously no marker. His son, John, was born in 1912, so the family must have moved away after that date..An Edward Walsh Walsh died in Littleton in 1934 and his daughter Mary was present at death. He may be a possibility.
I wonder if there is a connection to Bourkes of Mooresfort. Their farm was left to a David Walsh of Lattin - a nephew - who was buried in their grave in Lattin when he died in 1990.

Ger

Hi Christine,
Following on from last month's posting, I came across the following gravestone inscription I recorded more than thirty years ago in Shronell Graveyard, about two miles east of Lattin:
Erected by their children in loving memory of their father Edward Walsh
A native of Lattin who died in Carlow 26th April 1925.
And their mother Julia Walsh died 10th September 1919.
Also the parents, brother and sisters of the above interred here.
Regards,
Ger

Hello Ger,
Thank you for your reply. I am aware of the headstone in Shronell graveyard. I do not believe the Edward Walsh listed there is my great grandfather only because I do know that he passed in either 1913 or 1914 (unfortunately I haven't found any death record). I am told by family that he did not see his last son John born. His children including my grandmother emigrated to the US in 1926. The Walsh family burried at Shronell are the parents and brother of my great grandfather so I was hoping he would be close but I am under the impression I may not find him. I have had some very kind people check the headstones in Lattin Old Cemetery and unfortunately have been unsuccessful. My 2x great grandfather was James Power who passed in 1916. I was hoping that if i could find him I might find my great grandfather Edmund as well, but no luck to date. Thank you for checking for me. I really do appreciate you reaching out.
Still searching with fingers crossed!

Christine, My name is Bobby Byrnes, this may not help, but its in reference to The Power family who you believe may be buried in Mount Bruis cemetary.
My mothers uncle Jim Hyland was married to Mary (Dolly) Power, born in1915.She died young in 1956 and is buried in the family grave in Mount Bruis.
So her parents and family are buried there. She was from the townland of Ballinleentyl
My email is 26byrnes@gmail.com.

Hello Bobby,
Thanks for your reply. I am not sure if there is a connection within these two Power families. I have kind of given this a little rest as it can sometimes get to be a bit much. I appreciate you reaching out though. Everytime I get an inquiry I start to get intrigued to start again. I will look over my records and if I have any questions for you I will reach you through your email.
Thank you!

Hello,
This is a very interesting thread for me. If anyone has done a close reading of the graves, or if there is a record of Lattin and Old Shronell or possibly Solohead graveyards, happy to receive an answer in a few years time too.
I'm just looking for the early 20thC family grave of my Ballycohey great grandfather John Ryan (1841?-1913) . He might be the 'John Ryan' on the Shronell monument, and his wife Catherine (O'Donnell) Ryan, originally from Lattin (1847-1929) they married in Lattin in 1866, and their unmarrried children, William (Willy) Ryan (1870-1941) , Bridget Ryan (1877-?) and Mary (1872-?) who stayed on the Ballycohey farm all their lives.
I would just like to find the grave, or is it possible people from Ballycohey, Shronell are buried in Solohead?
Finally I am curious if he is the 'John Ryan' of the Battle of Ballycohey, my mother said that the women were involved in bringing the guns away in their skirts (of course theres no womens names on the monument) , not sure how much information was passed on as her Ryan father died when she was a child, there seems to be just one John Ryan in that townland in that whole period.
