    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

There are not many records for your family. I did find civil birth records for two older sisters of Catherine Mannion.

  • Dear Mr. McDonnell,

Thank you  so much for the birth records.  It's interesting to see how before coming to America their last name was spelled with two "n" in Manion. I know it's not uncommon for names to change but this is definite proof of it.  I'm so happy to have these records.

    Thank you again,

  • Dear Lisa,

I'm a fellow member rather than a volunteer, and I took an interest in your post because I have people with the Walsh, Conneely and Mannion/Manion surnames in Pittsburgh and Carnegie. My direct line is a couple named Patrick Joyce and Margaret Baker, but I feel fairly confident that some of your surnames had marriages with "my" families back in the Clifden area. Their residence was in the townland of Derryinver on the Renvyle peninsula in the western part of County Galway.

I have a baptism record from 15 Jan 1857 for your Anne Conneely, and her father is Festy (Festus) rather than Fritz.  Fritz was just a bad transcription of a poorly written record.

It would be interesting to do a GEDmatch comparison of our DNA kits if you have one loaded to that site.  My kit there is A950580.

    Best wishes,

    Jay Shock / Pittsburgh area

  • Well, to jump on the bandwagon..... I still live in Pittsburgh and also share the names Walsh- Michael Walsh married Bridget Delaney - My Bridget Conneely married John Phillips and came to Pittsburgh as did their daughter's.  I submitted DNA and also show a strong match to Mannion's in Galway area but am unable to figure out how we connect. My mother's paternal side of the family was Bridget Phillips and Anthony Truel. Anthony was from Clifden, Galway.  Wonder if we match? I am on Ancestry, 23andme,FamilytreeDNA and Gedmatch.

  • Hi Judy,

I'm also on Ancestry and GEDmatch. I'll check it out and see if our DNA matches.
