Hi, 

I have found a marriage record in Latin for Patrick Haran and Bridget Carroll in Kilbeagh, County Mayo, on 17 Feb 1864. The column after their names and their witnesses'  names is "Empedimenta", presumably about any potential marriage impediments. In their row and many of the other rows around them, this column has the entry that looks something like "tempore vitito" or something similar. Does anyone know what this meant? I couldn't find anything about it on Google and Google Translate translated it as something like "at a lost time", which doesn't make sense. If Patrick Haran is the same Patrick Haran I was looking for then he would have been 17 at the time of the marriage, so underage and needing permission. Could the phrase be something to do with that?

    the birth of the son you have    -   is his Father's name John

    Note:  back then there was very little information given on certificates/documents.

    Thank you very much for this source. This is the marriage certificate that corresponds with the parish record we found. It also fits into our tree because Pat's father was John and they lived at Kilgarriff, but we're not 100% sure because Pat's age is very out with him being 29 - we have a baptism that would make him only 17.But thank you for your information and quick reply.

  • I happened to look on Chat GPT (free version for iOS) and it said, "it is often seen as part of a Latin phrase accompanying a person's name, indicating the time or period during which a particular event or record took place. It can provide additional information regarding the timeframe or duration relevant to the individual mentioned in the record."

    Does that help at all??  By the way, my Brennan ancestors are from Charlestown, were married there and had 11 children there. They lived in Tomboholla (Bushfield).
