I have found where my 2X Grandparents were married but I would like to obtain the actual documentation from the church.

Date:March 30, 1854

Place: bovevagh, Derry, Northern Ireland

Bride: Elizabeth McMullen

Groom: James Green(e)

Barony Keenaght

Would the marriage be in her parish or his parish??

  • The couple were married in Bovevagh Church of Ireland, in the parish of Bovevagh. Tradition was to marry in the bride’s church. Here’s a copy of their marriage certificate:

    https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1854/09477/5434657.pdf

Unfortunately that church’s records were lost in the 1922 fire in Dublin and they have no baptisms earlier than 1878 and no marriages before 1845.

If you want a formal copy of the marriage you can order it from GRONI for £15. You will need to open an account and buy some credits. It costs £2.50 (sterling) to a view a certificate:

    https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk

Alternatively you can order a research copy (ie photocopy) from GRO Roscommon for €5. https://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/Apply-for-Certificates.aspx

You can e-mail your order to them and they will e-mail the certificate back to you.
