Please advise  which Parish, Province and/or County I should join so that I can trace my Father's family history. Known details are as follows.

Father: Charles Joseph Boyle

Born: 10 August 1899

Baptised: 20 August 1899 Sacred Heart Parish, Belfast.

Parents: Charles Boyle and Mary McKay married on 1 Mar 1897  in Whitehouse County, Antrim. Charles was born in 1872 and Mary died in 1909 at City Hospital Belfast.

After his mother died, my Father was placed in an orphanage and, in 1925, he emigrated to Australia. He arrived in Melbourne aboard the SS Borda in April.

  • Hi

    Thank you for your message.

You may try posting your information on the County Antrim message board. Also Shankill is the civil parish for Belfast City - so you may try that message board as well.

If you haven't already - you might try any of the following for more information:

The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/

The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm

    http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/townlands/index.cfm?fuseaction…

Remember to post as much information as you can with regard to the people you are researching. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

    Kind regards,

  • You should look at the Census of Ireland site

    http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/

I did a quick search on the 1911 page and found Charles Boyle aged 12 in County Antrim

This gave me two Charles Boyles aged 11 at address in Falls Road Belfast.  It is the list for an institution called St Patricks Industrial School so that is probably where he was.

    Hope that helps

    Aidan
